Coping With Chronic Stress
Lots of things can cause chronic stress. A demanding job, an overfull evening schedule or an unhappy home life, can be burdens that precipitate stress. Financial problems, health concerns, relationship tension and a billion other factors can affect our stress levels. When those levels are too high for too long, we experience chronic stress.
Believe it or not, you were designed to handle stress. Whether it is being chased by a wild animal or entering a boardroom to make a presentation, people have experienced stress through the ages and the body has ways of dealing with the stress. However, it can be argued that a modern lifestyle brings with it ever increasing levels of stress.
Some situations lend themselves to Chronic Stress. For instance, when the difficult situations we deal with in our lives are ongoing or seem to be irresolvable it can lead to prolonged periods of stress on the body. This means that the nervous system does not get regular periods of relaxation necessary to a healthy mental and physical state. This type of chronic stress is something the body is not meant to deal with.

Stress comes in many sizes and shapes. There is enough for everyone. There are many different type of stress, but most of them are at least partially an emotional stress. They can wreak havoc on not only our mental or physical state but also our emotions. This can be very draining, and if the emotional stress is chronic, it can really take its toll.
Some of the symptoms experienced by those who have chronic stress are stomach upset, head and backache, anxiety, depression, insomnia, intense mood swings or anger, confusion or poor concentration, hypertension, hemorrhoids, varicose veins, and possibly even suicidal thoughts.
Things may not be as bad as they seem. Even though going through hard times or dealing with difficult long term situations can bring on these sometimes overwhelming symptoms, even if your situation doesn’t change, there are things that can be done to help relieve the stress and make your life easier. Most of these are lifestyle changes.
We can all benefit from living a more healthy lifestyle. When people talk about a healthy lifestyle, they don’t only mean keeping your body fit. Living right with the proper diet, getting exercise, adequate sleep make you feel better all around and are all proven ways of improving the symptoms of chronic stress. In addition to those more general lifestyle changes, learning stress management, relaxation techniques and engaging in relaxing hobbies can be very helpful in coping with problems.
Life can be overwhelming. It is better to bend than break. When life seems to be giving you more than you are able to handle and you find yourself dealing with emotional stress, especially if it is chronic stress, it can really take the enjoyment out of life and bring physical and mental problems that only add to your load. Although making changes to your lifestyle can sometimes be difficult and require some self discipline, those changes can have a big impact on how well you feel in general and your ability to cope with the stress in your life.
