Anxiety Agoraphobia is not created in a vacuum. In fact, in almost every case of agoraphobia people also had a pre existing condition of panic disorder. This is illuminating. This clues us in to the fact that this patient has already had several panic attacks. More than likely, these anxiety panic attacks occurred in a variety of situations and places and the person then developed a fear of repeated attacks.
This repeated anxiety panic attack situation may have caused a fear of having an anxiety attack someplace where they would find it hard or embarrassing to remove themselves from. The thought of being unable to escape easily from such an environment when a panic attack comes on is terrifying and causes them to try to keep away from such places.
For this reason, Agoraphobia interfere greatly with a person’s desire to live a normal lifestyle. It makes doing the most simple required tasks like going to work or going to the store very difficult. The Agoraphobic would rather stay at home than risk experiencing an anxiety panic attack while out in public. Obviously, this is debilitating.
